Blake
Murdoch - snic, El Terran
Blake started playing the kit at age 11. After three
years of lessons from Xavier College performance artist
Trevor Bigham, he set off on his own.
In 2002 he helped found philosocore band 'snic' with
which he has recorded three albums to date. Melding
various styles into a mass of thematic consistency,
snic has been described as "genre-defying, horizon-expanding,
uncompromising music that is actually listenable" and "one
part melodic space rock, one part prog, one part screamo,
one part technical post rock, and lastly, just plain
insane."
Among small side projects, a second significant band,
El Terran formed in mid-2006. With help from Grant MacEwan
performance artists Katie Perman and Braden Sustrik,
El Terran strives to create a wall of complex, effect-ridden
sound that is permeated by melodic female vocals.
Blake's
comments:
"My Pinnacle
kit has been an absolute blessing. The kick drum
sounds like a cannon, and the toms have incredible depth
and warmth. The snares have an bright tone that pierces
easily through the three distorted guitars I sometimes
have to deal with. They are also extremely sensitive
and responsive to ghost strokes and brushes. Overall,
I can't say I have ever played a more musical-sounding
and versatile drum kit. It truly became apparent
to me when I recorded some live demos with El Terran
and the drums sounded better off the floor than almost
any of my mixed and mastered albums!
The finish is unlike anything I have ever seen, striking
and unique without sacrificing the elegance of maple
shells. It is quite evident that the craftsmanship and
artistry of Epek are unsurpassed.
The Impact Cases are highly recommended: At my first
gig with the Pinnacle kit, I opened the trunk to our
SUV and the tom case fell 6 feet to the ground.
Let's just say it was as if nothing had even happened.
What a reliable way to protect my investment.
Lastly, the customizing and purchasing process was completely
relaxed and fun.
This truly is a boutique company worth checking out."
