Project: Late 70's Gretsch kit. Replace original 60 degree edges with EPEK 30 degree offset edges
Hi
Ed;
Well, I've got the drums back together again and the results are quite impressive.
The fundamental tonal characteristics of the drums are intact, and I didn't
really expect them to change: once Gretsch, always Gretsch! What I have noticed,
of course, is that they are now easier to tune, even the notorious 13"x9".
Most importantly, however, is the fact that the drums now, as hoped, ring more
openly, and speak more easily at low volumes. And under timpani mallets, they
positively sing!
I'm very pleased with the result and can highly recommend the bearing edge re-cut
procedure. For drums that need to be revitalized, especially for older or vintage
kits on which the original manufacturing process may have been somewhat lacking
(i.e. Gretsch drums of the late 70s!), there is no better, cost-effective investment
you can make. And Ed, your care and attention to detail make it all work.
Well done, and thank you again!
